Checkout Extension
Checkout extension validates personalization orders prior in the checkout page. It runs while a buyer is checking out and can stop them from continuing when a personalized order is not ready to be placed.
It does not add a form, banner, or other content to checkout. Buyers only notice it when checkout is blocked.
What buyers experience
On a valid cart, checkout continues as usual.
When the cart cannot be fulfilled as a Stylux order, the buyer is stopped and sees one message:
| Scenario | Message |
|---|---|
| Personalized items are incomplete, inconsistent, or cannot be fulfilled | The personalization details didn't save. Remove and add your personalized items again. |
| The cart mixes direct-to-consumer and business personalized bundles | This order has conflicting personalized D2C and B2B items. Remove and add your personalized items again. |
The message does not name the specific product. The buyer is asked to remove the personalized items and add them again.
What the check looks at
The extension reads the current cart and sends product variant lines to Stylux for validation. For each Shopify product variant it includes:
- the variant
- the quantity
- whether the item requires shipping
- the Stylux bundle id, when the line has a
stylux_bundleor_stylux_bundleattribute - whether a bundled line is a business order, from a
stylux_b2bor_stylux_b2battribute
Lines that are not Shopify product variants are ignored.
Stylux then checks that personalized bundles are complete and consistent. Checkout is blocked when that check finds any of the following:
- a product that requires personalization, but the personalization was not saved
- a personalized line that is missing its bundle
- a bundle whose base product is missing or not linked
- a base product, upsell, text upsell, or icon upsell whose quantity does not match the offer
- personalization or upsell charges that are missing, incomplete, or do not match the bundle
- not enough inventory to fulfill the order
- personalized bundles in the same cart that disagree about whether the order is direct-to-consumer or business
Business and direct-to-consumer are decided from bundled lines only. A non-bundled item with a business attribute does not change the order type and does not cause the mixed-order block.
What it affects
This extension affects one thing: whether the buyer can continue through checkout.
It can stop progress on checkout steps where Shopify allows an extension to block the buyer. If Shopify does not allow blocking at that moment, checkout continues.
What it does not change
- Product pages, the cart page, or the personalization experience before checkout
- Prices, discounts, taxes, or payment methods
- Shipping rates and delivery options
- The order after it is placed
- The thank-you page, order status page, or Shopify admin
Shipping options for personalized products are handled separately by the delivery customization extension. Order status in Shopify admin is handled separately by the View Stylux Order block.
Contact details, the shipping address, and payment details are not part of this check.
When checkout is allowed through
Checkout continues when the cart passes validation. It also continues when the check cannot be completed, so a buyer is not stuck because Stylux is unavailable:
- the shop has not saved a Stylux API key and secret yet
- Stylux returns an error that is not one of the personalization, bundle, charge, or inventory problems listed above
- the validation response is missing or is not a clear pass-or-fail result
In those cases the buyer can place the order. Problems that were skipped at checkout can still appear later, when the order is processed.
Where it is installed
Merchants add Stylux Personalization Validation in the checkout editor. Placement does not matter for what the buyer sees, because the extension does not render content. It still has to be added to checkout for the check to run.
